It’s been a weekend to savour for Watford Ladies FC with emphatic wins from the U10s up to the First Team, whose convincing 12-nil victory away to St Margaretsbury Ladies takes them through to the semi-finals of the County Cup.
The U16 Warriors march on to the quarter-finals of their Cup, but a resolute Harpenden Colts side made them work for it. Watford took an early lead through a wonder strike from Matilda Walker, volleying the ball into the net from outside of the box.
The Colts equalised in the second half and the Warriors had the opportunity to take the lead again from the penalty spot, but it was comfortably saved. This seemed to galvanise Watford who pressed with urgency and went on to win 3-1 thanks to further goals from Tiana Mackenzie-David and Chloe Timms.
The U18 Hornets took on Harefield United in a Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League Division 1 clash. Watford started quicker and were 1-nil up when Eva Essome slid a ball through to Sofia Maltese to slot past the keeper. But Harefield struck back with a long-range effort that snuck in at the near post and scored a second before half time.
With the manager’s words still ringing in their ears Watford came out for the second half with renewed vigour. On the 48th minute Maltese hammered home to level the score. Their dominance continued as Simi Saggar played a delightful low cross to Essome who put them ahead. Essome then netted her second to seal a well-deserved 4-2 win for WLFC.
Meanwhile in the Junior Premier League the U18 Warriors came away from Worthing Town FC with an 8-nil victory, the U15s sealed a 2-nil away win against Welling United and U13 Warriors beat West Ham Performance 6-3 away.
WLFC Development teams also had a super Saturday with wins for the U11, U13 and U16 Harts in the HGFPL.
